******UPDATE******   June 9th, 2010  8:20am,  POWER HAS BEEN RESTORED. PLEASE REPORT TO WORK AS SCHEDULED******

******Today June 8th, at approximately 4:30pm we experienced a power outage at the AT&T Call Center in Fairhaven, MA. Back-up power kicked in and emergency lighting came on but all systems, phones and air conditioning were down. After a short time it became apparent that power and systems would not be quickly restored so the union officers spoke with management to allow employees to leave the building and move outside until the situation could be further assessed. Management granted this request and employees moved to the grounds outside the building. At approximately 6:30pm power had still not been restored. Although power to the building had been restored they were unable to switch the power back from the backup system. At this point the decision was made to offer all employees the option to leave on unpaid E-time. All employees who elected to stay were to report to their team managers for meetings which took place in the grounds around the building or in areas of the building which still had sufficient lighting. Another update was promised by management by 8pm as to the status of the center for the remainder of the evening. At approximately 7:30pm the backup emergency lighting began to dim...at approximately 7:50pm the backup emergency lighting completely failed. At this point we evacuated the remaining employees in the building ensured everyone made it out safetly. All employees who remained will be paid until the end of their scheduled shifts.

As of 8:15pm, maintenance was still working on restoring full power and systems to the building. We have been assured that everything possible is being done to have the center back up and running for work tomorrow. At this point all employees are expected to report to work for their normally scheduled shifts. Should there be any changes, management will notify the union and this website will be updated. We have also been advised that employees can call the I'm ok hotline which should also have a recorded message if there are any delays/closing of the building for tomorrow. (1-866-937-6529).*****
